PICA Partners with HerFlow Foundation to Help End Period Poverty in Jamaica

The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA), through its Business Development and Communications Unit, has partnered with the HerFlow Foundation to address period poverty in Jamaica. As part of the first phase of this collaboration, PICA donated over 40,000 menstrual products to support girls and women who face challenges accessing essential period care.

During the official handover ceremony on August 18, 2025, HerFlow’s Executive Director, Shelly-Ann Weeks, toured the PICA offices in Kingston, engaging with various departments about the realities of period poverty and the difference PICA’s contribution will make in the lives of vulnerable Jamaicans.

“This initiative forms part of our Corporate Social Responsibility mandate, which focuses on improving the well-being of Jamaicans,” said Kauna McKenzie, Director of the Business Development and Communications Unit at PICA. “We chose to partner with HerFlow because we recognize the urgent need to address period poverty, which continues to affect thousands of women and girls across the country. By contributing to this effort, we are not only providing products but also helping to remove barriers that prevent girls from fully participating in school and society.”

Looking ahead, PICA has committed to further support the initiative by donating personal care items and collecting old jeans, which will be repurposed into period pouches through HerFlow’s Denim for Dignity Project.

Expressing gratitude for the partnership, Shelly-Ann Weeks, Executive Director of HerFlow, stated: “We are deeply thankful to PICA for this meaningful contribution. Period poverty is a national issue that requires national solutions, and corporate Jamaica has a critical role to play. By joining hands with us, PICA is demonstrating the power of collaboration in ensuring that no girl or woman is left behind because of her period.”

The HerFlow Foundation continues to lead efforts in menstrual health education, advocacy, and sustainable solutions across Jamaica. Through partnerships such as this, the organization aims to eliminate period poverty and promote dignity for all.
