HerFlow Partners with UN Women to Support Jamaican Women Impacted by Hurricane Beryl

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, HerFlow Foundation has partnered with UN Women to provide much-needed support to Jamaican women affected by the storm. On July 18, 2024, a handover ceremony was held at the Ministry of Gender, Entertainment and Sports, where HerFlow presented over 400 packs of menstrual products to aid in the recovery effort.

Hurricane Beryl left many Jamaican families struggling to rebuild their lives, with women and girls disproportionately impacted. Access to basic hygiene products, including menstrual supplies, became a critical need for many in the affected communities. Recognizing this gap, HerFlow Foundation stepped forward, partnering with UN Women to ensure that dignity and menstrual health were prioritized in relief efforts.

Shelly-Ann Weeks, Founder and Executive Director of HerFlow Foundation, highlighted the importance of this initiative:
“Periods don’t pause for hurricanes, and our goal is to ensure that women and girls have access to the essential products they need to maintain their dignity during challenging times. We are honored to partner with UN Women in this effort to uplift and support Jamaican women as they rebuild.”

The handover ceremony at the Ministry of Gender, Entertainment and Sports was a symbolic moment, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing the needs of women and girls in vulnerable situations. Representatives from the ministry, UN Women, and HerFlow Foundation spoke to the importance of collaboration in ensuring that disaster relief efforts are inclusive and address the unique challenges faced by women and girls.

HerFlow Foundation’s contribution underscores its broader mission to combat period poverty and provide essential menstrual products to Jamaicans in need. Since its inception in 2016, HerFlow has been a leader in promoting menstrual health and breaking the stigma surrounding periods.

The partnership with UN Women highlights the power of collaboration in responding to crises. Together, the two organizations are making a tangible difference in the lives of Jamaican women, ensuring that even in times of disaster, they can face each day with dignity and resilience.
