HerFlow Foundation and JWN Foundation Partner to Provide Nearly 2,000 Free Period Kits to Jamaican Students

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, the HerFlow Foundation joined forces with the JWN Foundation to distribute free menstrual kits to 1,975 girls across Jamaica. The initiative, aligned with this year’s IWD theme “Accelerate Action,” underscores a shared commitment to advancing gender equality and recognizing the achievements of women and girls.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to end period poverty—a mission both foundations are deeply passionate about. The distribution took place throughout March, which the JWN Foundation designated as Women’s Month, with activities kicking off at the Spirited Women Luncheon on March 8th, where the annual End Period Poverty Campaign was officially launched.

The menstrual kits included sanitary napkins, panty liners, and disposable wipes, providing students with essential resources to manage their menstrual health with dignity. In addition to the kits, educational talks led by nurses were held, focusing on proper menstrual hygiene practices—an important component in promoting overall health and well-being.

“Period poverty is a barrier to education, dignity, and opportunity. By providing these essential kits and education, we’re not just supporting girls during their periods—we’re empowering them to show up, thrive, and know they matter,” said Shelly-Ann Weeks, Executive Director of the HerFlow Foundation.

Since the inception of the End Period Poverty Campaign, the JWN Foundation has donated 11,322 sanitary products to 6,925 women and girls in 20 institutions across the island. This year’s expansion reached 17 schools and 4 children’s homes located in Kingston, Clarendon, and St. Elizabeth, ensuring broader access to menstrual care in both urban and rural communities.

“At JWN Foundation, we believe in investing in the holistic well-being of our young women. Through our continued support of the End Period Poverty Campaign, we aim to break the silence around menstruation and remove barriers to education and self-confidence,” said Samantha Blake, Project Lead at JWN Foundation.

This partnership between HerFlow and JWN Foundation not only supports young girls during a vital stage in their development but also continues the important conversation around menstrual health, helping to break stigma and empower the next generation of women.
