HerFlow and Bresheh Join Forces for the Jeans Project to End Period Poverty and Promote Sustainability

The HerFlow Jeans Project is a groundbreaking initiative that combines advocacy for dignified periods with environmental sustainability. In a bold step towards ending period poverty in Jamaica, the HerFlow Foundation has partnered with the award-winning Jamaican brand Bresheh to create something truly transformative: menstrual pouches made from donated old jeans.

This innovative project encourages the public to donate their old denim, which is then repurposed into stylish and durable pouches. These pouches, designed by Bresheh as part of their commitment to reducing textile waste, are filled with menstrual products and distributed to those in need across Jamaica.

Purpose and Progress
The Jeans Project is part of HerFlow’s broader mission to end period poverty by ensuring that no one is denied access to essential menstrual products. It also aligns with Bresheh’s goal of promoting environmental sustainability by giving new life to discarded materials.

Since its launch, the Jeans Project has made a significant impact. In October 2024, approximately 200 pouches were completed, filled, and some distributed to students at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) during HerFlow’s Period Awareness Day Flashmob. The rest were distributed to students at Green Island and Yallahs High Schools. These pouches provided immediate relief to students, fostering confidence and dignity.

A Partnership Rooted in Growth and Sustainability
Both HerFlow and Bresheh view the Jeans Project as an ongoing initiative with limitless potential. They are committed to scaling up the project to reach more individuals in need while maintaining their focus on environmental responsibility.

“This project beautifully blends two critical missions: addressing period poverty and reducing waste. It’s a partnership that reflects our shared commitment to empowering lives and protecting the planet,” said Shelly-Ann Weeks, Executive Director of HerFlow.

Call to Action
The HerFlow Foundation is calling on the public to continue donating old jeans. Each pair contributes to a tangible difference, helping to ensure that more Jamaicans have access to the menstrual products they need while supporting an eco-friendly initiative.

Donations can be made at designated drop-off points, and further information on how to get involved can be found on HerFlow’s social media platforms.

The Bigger Picture
The Jeans Project is not just about making pouches; it is about creating a movement—one that promotes dignified periods, environmental responsibility, and community collaboration. With continued support from the public, HerFlow and Bresheh aim to expand this initiative, reaching more schools, communities, and vulnerable groups across the island.

Join HerFlow and Bresheh in their mission to empower lives and preserve the environment, one pouch at a time. Together, we can make a difference—because everyone deserves dignity, and every effort counts.
